Still troubleshooting this. One thing I noticed was that the mplayer
emerge unsets CFLAGS and somehow determines them on it's own. The
problem is, it sets march to athlon-4, which is exactly what's
recommended against in /etc/make.conf. My CFLAGS in make.conf is set to
"-mcpu=athlon-xp -03 -pipe -march=athlon-xp". Commenting out the
unset command causes mplayer to be compiled with my CFLAGS settings, but
does not fix my problem.
