Do you have the -j and cache options in make.conf?

Two possible reasons.
(1) Some packages just don't compile in parallel using
distcc/ccache.
(2) The ebuild specifies MAKEOPTS="-j1" for delicate
packages.
I understand POSSIBLE reasons, I am looking for
PARTICULAR reasons.
Especially as:
(1) The ebuild seems to specifically try to accommodate
multiple jobs.
(2) I have personally had success with ccache with
previous versions of
xfree.
