Never mind, several options were missing in the kernel config, related to
PROMISE support. Now it seems right, at least concerning the detection of
the Promise IDE controller:
root $ cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 2.01a14 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2003 Jrg
Schilling
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.25
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
scsibus0:
0,0,0 0) 'IOMEGA ' 'ZIP 250 ' '41.S' Removable Disk
0,1,0 1) 'IDE ' 'DVD-ROM 16X ' '2.0 ' Removable CD-ROM
0,2,0 2) 'HL-DT-ST' 'CD-RW GCE-8160B ' '1.02' Removable CD-ROM
0,3,0 3) *
0,4,0 4) *
0,5,0 5) *
0,6,0 6) *
0,7,0 7) *
