Sounds like a great idea!

Did you ever program using curses?

The ncurses lib is great for such tasks: easy to make thinks look like
good old SAA/CUA 'standard' or like the way old textmode SuSE YAST looks.

And there are lots of good curses tutorials on the web...

IM(h)O having a stable textmode installer would be more valuable than 
having a GUI installer - but of course that does NOT mean that a GUI
installer would be wasted time: I just would not make this /before/ the
textmode program is running and stable.  ;-)
