Here is what I had to do:
1. Enable SMP and ACPI in the kernel. 2. Select Pentium 4 as the CPU type in the kernel (not sure if this is really needed but can't hurt). 3. Enable Hyperthreading in the BIOS.
Please note that a CPU having the "ht" flag listed in /proc/cpuinfo doesn't necessarily mean it actually supports Hyperthreading, my P4Mobile based laptop shows the "ht" flag but does not support Hyperthreading.
If all is well you should be able to reboot and play with your new "dual" CPU system.
