Just stick your gentoo CD in again, boot of that, mount your partitions, chroot and rebuild the kernel. If your using reiserfs, it's not in there by default (as well as xfs, jfs, etc...) The install guide also talks about many other things that need to be compiled directly into the kernel. If you don't want to go through every option in the kernel at this stage, think about your core hardware and make sure that support for it is included in the kernel, AS WELL AS following the tips in the installation guide.
