Hi,

I'm still having problems with emerge wanting to downgrade glibc from 2.3.2-r1 to
2.3.1-r4. It doesn't matter if I do emerge -u system or emerge -U system, it still
tries to downgrade before doing something else:

embryo portage # emerge -up system

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating system dependencies ...done!
[ebuild UD] sys-libs/glibc-2.3.1-r4 [2.3.2-r1]
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/selinux-small-2003040709-r3
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/psmisc-21.2-r3 [21.2-r2]
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/util-linux-2.11z-r6 [2.11z-r4]
[ebuild U ] sys-devel/automake-1.7.5-r2 [1.7.2]
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/gnuconfig-20030708
[ebuild U ] sys-devel/libtool-1.4.3-r1 [1.4.1-r10]

embryo portage # emerge -Up system

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating system dependencies ...done!
[ebuild UD] sys-libs/glibc-2.3.1-r4 [2.3.2-r1]
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/selinux-small-2003040709-r3
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/psmisc-21.2-r3 [21.2-r2]
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/util-linux-2.11z-r6 [2.11z-r4]
[ebuild U ] sys-devel/automake-1.7.5-r2 [1.7.2]

[ebuild U ] sys-devel/libtool-1.4.3-r1 [1.4.1-r10]

Trying to upgrade a single package, like psmisc also tries to downgrade glibc first:

embryo portage # emerge psmisc
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 3) sys-libs/glibc-2.3.1-r4 to /
Killed

I'm stumped. I don't even know where to start looking for the problem. I've searched
through the forum for an explanation and a solution, but I haven't found a post
regarding the same problem.

If anyone could give me a hint on at least where to start looking, I'd be very
thankful.

Henrik.
