It does not work at all on this box, with several LIVECDs.

I get some crap about no user distcc, and no, creating one does not solve the problem.
Also, the Knoppix cd has a working distccd FROM BOOT! However some ebuilds fail when 
being run throuhg the Knoppix machine, ebuilds like X...argh
