Hi,
   Can someone who is using a USB-based UPS offer up information on what
needs to be built at the kernel level in terms of USB support? When I
try to start apcupsd it's failing:

Wizard linux # /etc/init.d/apcupsd start
 * Starting APC UPS daemon...
apcupsd FATAL ERROR in linux-usb.c at line 614
Cannot open UPS device                         [ !! ]

and I think that I just don't have USB built in my kernel right now.
Nothing in the USB area is currently built as modular support. Nothing
shows up in an lsmod.

   It turns out that, apparently, I have some pretty strange USB
settings when I look at make xconfig and my current USB settings.
Trimming out everything that is not set I'm left with:

CONFIG_USB=y
CONFIG_USB_UHCI_ALT=y
CONFIG_USB_STORAGE=y

   The USB controller is built into the Via chipset on this A7V333-X
motherboard. Is this OHCI? As listed on the Asus web site it says:

USB 2.0
VIA VT8235 built-in USB2.0
6 x USB 2.0 ports

Wizard linux # lspci
<SNIP>
00:10.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 80)
00:10.1 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 80)
00:10.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 80)
00:10.3 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0 (rev 82)
<SNIP>

   BTW - Thanks again to all that offered suggestions on my '$100 UPS
Challenge' thread.

Thanks,
Mark
