BHHACTRL (Banging Head Hard Against Concrete To Reduce Laughing)
I believe it's good to look at our own qualities, and to question what we
do, how we do it plus why we do it. I do so myself and I hope that many
(most? [all?]) people do so. It's very constructive to verify ones owns
eventual qualities before stomping on the result of someone else's efforts.
Pushed hard and far, it could even make a person... Uhm... Humble.
Though I must admit that this phrase:
"...speaking to a trained expert in a call centre who will be able to
answer any question you may have..."
doesn't even come close to my experiences.
I'm not a 333333 (how did you write that stuff?) kiddie, reaching 50 years
in a while. I've been writing software for 24 years now. I have been using
software written by other people for at least the same period. Still, my
experience is that if I filter out the information from the noise, mailing
lists actually provide more accurate answers than any professional helpdesk
(including our own) that I've ever contacted.
But that's of course nothing but my personal experience.

We have 5 people writing our office suite, we don't do any testing in house
and ship everything that compiles, there are 20k dedicated Linux users who
download our software and test it for us, sometimes a couple might look at
our source code and fix things.

We don't actually factor support into our software, we like users to help
each other. So instead of speaking to a trained expert in a call centre who
will be able to answer any question you may have, you can engage in
discussions with several pubescent l333t kiddies on our mailinglists. If
they cannot help you, RTFM - M$ DR0NE!

Although we would rather you ordered it on CD as we're in financial
difficulties with all the leechers costing us a fortune in bandwidth.
