It's not a dumb question, but I did (I suppose you mean the analog cable, I don't have a digital one, although both the driver and the card have the corresponding connectors). Anyway, the thing works in another OS that shall remain unnamed... Maybe alsa has let its mark on the system? I recompiled KDE with USE="-alsa" and rc-update'd alsasound off the boot runlevel. -- Jorge Almeida
