I've been using Gentoo forever [had 1.4 release candidates and the 1.4 release]. Recently I had to goto the darkside and use windows for a job and now I'm back in gentoo [I have but one disk and I hate duel-booting].
The problem is I've merged KDE in via
emerge -u kde
After the initial stages of setup [e.g. I've installed the core gentoo to disk, updated world/system].
The problem is when I launch "kdm" it shows up correctly but both the mouse and the keyboard are "frozen". I can't kill X nor login. I'm currently running as root only [I'll setup users later].
The machine is exactly the same as the last time I ran gentoo and I installed off the same CD.
Has anyone else had this problem? My guess is it's either Tom forgot todo something [but this is how I installed 1.4 before hand] or a recent Gentoo patch on X or KDE has busted input support.
Some more details, I'm running kernel 2.4.22 using the same configuration script [basically I enable almost all of the drivers as modules and let hotplug sort it out] as I did last time. All of my devices show up [e.g. usbmouse, bttv, cmpci, etc...]
I have a PS/2 style keyboard and a USB [microsoft] mouse.
Any tips? I can provide more info if required just ask!
Please help!
Thanks, Tom
