I did repatch the kernel and also build the driver. I didn't do make mrproper though.
The wireless connection works but I have to stop it and then start again.
/etc/init.d/net.eth1 stop /etc/init.d/net.eth1 start

Repatch the kernel and rebuild the driver. Every time you upgrade your kernel you will have to do this.
