I have read many posts on message boards about compiling Gentoo from stage one on dial-up connection...
Dummy newbie wants to know.
But I am sure you didn't read very nice step by step howto which is here:

because othervise you'll have system happily installed ;-).
Especially this is addressed to you: *"If you're installing Gentoo Linux for the first time, consider using a stage3 tarball for installation, or a stage3 with GRP." * Your mess of questions says, you haven't enough knowledge/experience to do it in other way. * *noro
