Well put.  It really angers me that very few are willing to follow the FHS.

It's been long past due for everyone to stop thinking what is best for them 
and their buddies and what is best for the client, 3rd-party software 
vendor, customer and user.  It's a level of service companies and 
individuals are really starting to look for.

IMHO, not following standards and actively trying to improve them makes the 
community look arrogant.

If I looked arrogant to my customers, I wouldn't have any work.
