Hmm... This is highly debatable... Mine depend highly on what I am doing. My servers have AT LEAST 5 partitions.. But Desktops can get away with less.. (I think)
Server: /var - about 500meg / - about 1gig /usr - about 3.5gig /home - about 2gig /boot - about 250 meg Desktop /boot - about 250 meg / - rest or 2gig /usr - if you want it to be seperate, the rest I know its a tade over 7gig, hence the "abouts" if you use tmpwatch for your two tmp areas, you shouldn't run out of room.. I have never ran out of disk space... Problem is, your /home drive may need more depending on your needs. I just don't need a lot. You really have to figure out this by personal preference... My server is a 6 gig drive.. I don't know if a desktop machine can survive on 7 gig with to many partitions. So I would suggest the desktop option if that's what your doing. Your not telling us a lot of important information so the numbers about could be off depending on what your doing. > -----Original Message----- > From: Walther The Writer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 11:02 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [gentoo-user] Suggestions on partitions sizes and what > directories to mount? > > > Hi all, > > I have an about 7 GB for Gentoo Linux allocated.
