Something strange is happening after I compiled the 2.4.22-ck2 kernel today.
I got it working fine with no problems. The pcmcia, ds, and i82365 modules
loaded up with no problem. Yet, when I went back to the 2.4.22 vanilla
sources kernel, my notebook could not modprobe the ds and i82365 modules.

When I compile a kernel, I normally re-emerge pcmcia. I then rc-update del
pcmcia boot followed by rc-update add pcmcia boot. I have a feeling that
when I deleted pcmcia from the run levels, it also deletes them from the
other kernels. Thus when I rc-update add pcmcia boot, it is only added to
newly compiled kernel. Am I right in this assumption? Should I just only
rc-update add pcmcia boot without deleting? If not, how can I avoid this
when I compile the next kernel?
