Responsibilities? not sure how you mean there, but our preferred means
of communication is bugzilla, since it gives us a backlog and queue of
workforce as well as a transparent process.

I came from FreeBSD to gentoo, so what I'm missing is the output like:
./configure failed.
Please send a pr to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> including the /path/to/config.log, ...
So a person who actually is responsible for this port (or ebuild in gentoo) gets the information first, quick, and can answer via email back to the user, what to do for now.
Just giveing a bug to bugzilla often takes long to get an answer. From the person itselve, I could get many hints to patch the ebuild, or missing requirements to install, troubles with different versions and so on, which are not acutally solved by the ebuild itselve.
