I am having a problem with a machine that I started out as a 1.2 machine, then a few months ago upgraded it to 1.4 using the instructions on teh web site. Everything had been working fine, then suddenly I am unable to emerge anything, I get an error stating that " checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C compiler (gcc -march=i686 -O3 -pipe -fforce-addr -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops -frerun-loop-opt -frerun-cse-after-loop -falign-functions=4 ) works... no configure: error: instalation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
!!! ERROR: net-misc/bidwatcher-1.3.10 failed. !!! Function econf, Line 320, Exitcode 1 !!! econf failed" Of course tha last 3 line change depending on the package I am trying to install. The problem as I see it seems to be gcc, When upgrading to 1.4 I did the gcc upgrade to 3.2.x, but whe I run gcc-config -l I onley get "[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-2.95.3" what could have happened to gcc 3? How do I go about repairing this? Does this mean a complete rebuild again? Thanks, Mike -- Michael W. Holdeman Why keep payin g for windoze??
