thanks that did the trick, i recompiled the kernel with char-devices-agpart set to module and the i830 stuff set to modules and then re-emerged xfree-drm and now its racing! woopie!!!

Oh, and recompile your kernel without the old versions. (Assuming you
didn't compile them as modules.)
