Do a search of the mailing list and the forums. There was a short python script around that did something fairly simple (ofcourse I can not remember :)

if you python was compiled with sse2 it would die, spewing you a few errors or something. If it didnt die, it meant your compiler was properly creating sse2 instructions (or you did not use sse2 support). Either way, it not crashing was what you wanted.
