What do you mean by "latest"? 4.3.0-r3? If you're upgrading from 4.3.0-r2 to that, not much should change. At most, you may need to run opengl-update xfree && opengl-update ati, but I wouldn't even expect that. Also, run 'quickpkg xfree' before upgrading to save a package of 4.3.0-r2. You can remerge that with emerge =xfree-4.3.0-r2 if you have major problems.
