Hi Brett, Fabien and others,

Thanks for your advice which works. I am now installing Mozilla_thunderbird, having no idea how long to take. Just leave the PC running.

on  /etc/make.conf
under "Advanced Masking" I found a line
# ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~arch"

Whether to uncomment it will install all arch including those unstable/testing packages, such as ~ppc, etc. Would unstable/testing packages be available on Gentoo website?

In previous thread "Re: [gentoo-user] (Successful)Installing KDE and Xfree problem"
I mentioned that I could not find the line for "PORT_LOGDIR." only #PORTDIR="/usr/portage"

Can I add following line to /etc/make.conf

PORT_LOGDIR="/var/log/portage"
to save emerge log file to this directtory. I already have the directory /var/log/portage created

Thanks

Kindly advise whether I need to issue following command;

# mount -t proc proc /mnt/gentoo/proc
# chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
# env-update
Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
# source /etc/profile

According to my recollection in installing 'mc' (midnight commander) and 'epm' previously, I did issue the above commands

OR whether it was caused by insufficient dependencies. How to find out which dependencies are in need?

Kindly advice.

Thanks in advance.
