i read somewhere that for usb printing cups must be started _after_ the usb printer is hotplugged. in rc-update, the cupsd is set to default and so was hotplug. i noticed that cups would load _before_ the hotplugging of the usb printer. so i changed the hotplug to boot level, but then began receiving many error messages about modules that were loaded and threw errors. how do i get cups to load after i do my usb hotplugging in the default level in rc-update? although greatly simplified in gentoo, it wasn't too bad in red hat linux and unix (hpux, solaris). is there a way that i can replace the rc-update with the old way of doing things?
