Thanks Tom.  I will give it a try.  I have a feeling I will be messing around 
with this until I get it right.  I read at the forum about a recommendation 
in emerging pcmcia-cs too just in case.

I think another problem is that under the 2.4 kernel, my nic card was 
identified as eth1. not eth0.  I am beginning to think that the 2.6 kernel 
may recognize eth0 as the correct card as again.  I plan to change 
/etc/conf.d/net when I boot back into the 2.6 kernel to see if this is the 
culprit.  Can't do it now for obvious reasons (2.4 recognizing eth1).

I will give this a try.
