Tom:

I compiled all the pcmcia stuff as modules. I then emerged pcmcia-cs and
update-modules. When I lsmod, all the same modules that I use in the 2.4
kernel are there. They also load up with no problem. I am pretty sure that
I have all the necessary modules compiled in the kernel.

How do I that? I think I do???

I am beginning to suspect that my /etc/pcmcia/config.opts may be the problem.
During load up, card manager cannot find the sockets. Here is what they are
for the 2.4 kernel:

# System resources available for PCMCIA devices

include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0xc00-0xcff
include memory 0xc0000-0xfffff
include memory 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff, memory 0x60000000-0x60ffffff
