Yes, look at /proc/cmdline: you can pass an argument in with this (add
something like "loc=home" to the kernel line in grub.conf) and insert a
few lines in your bootscript to detect this copy/sed the appropriate
config files.

I do 3 networks (two fixed, one dhcp) very successfully this way.  As
well, set it up so you can run the scripts manually - I just close the
lid at work, when I get home, open the lid and issue a "netswitch H"
command and I am setup on my home network.

There are scripts that will do this already, but they didnt look good to
me, or work very well due to my customised setup, and gentoo's
idiosyncrasies compared to redhat etc.

Roll your own, a great learning experience as well ...
