Hello all,
I was wondering a few things about installing new kernels etc. I have recently
moved to an mm-sources 2.6 kernel in order to get my ATI Radeon working (cos
of a KT400 motherboard). I'm pretty happy with how it's working, apart from
usb issues with the creating of devices in /dev (seems a few people are
having similar problems).

Anyway, I've copied my .config to the new kernel source dir, compiled and
installed and the kernel works. Usb issues are now resolved...yay :) But,
direct rendering as reported from glxinfo | grep render reports that I now
don't have it turned on :(

Do I need to re-emerge ati-drivers? I thought it would use the same modules as
th other kernel as listed in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6?

If I boot into the other kernel, then direct rendering is still working. I'm
getting quite confused why it's working in one but not the other, when they
should be using the same modules directory, shouldn't they?

Also, modules.autoload is pointing to modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4. Should I
point it to the 2.6 directory? It doesn't seem to affect the operation of
anything.

Sorry for a lot of questions, but I can't find a good guide on where different
config files should point etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Jord
