Rats! Ok. I have a IBM ThinkPad A21m with a builtin 3com ethernet card.
I just installed Gentoo from pentium3-1.4-20030911-cd{1,2}.iso
The 3c59x driver does not appear to be driving the network card correctly.
At insmod 3c59x logs :
kernel: 00:03.0 3Com PCI 3c556B Laptop Hurricane at 0x1800. Vers LK1.1.16
If I `ifconfig eth0' I get the following :
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWAddr FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
...
Doh! Nice MAC addr.
In /var/log/kern.log I get :
kernel: eth0: command 0x3002 did not complete! Status=0xffff
