Data / artwork / sound is still closed, and copyrighted. So its not ok
to offer the cd's for download.

Just clarifying a bit...


"code" meaning the core or I think they usually call it the "engine". It's what makes the game act the way it does or the bad guys/monsters act the way they do. The data/artwork/sound is what makes different games simply "look" different. I recall a few years back where it was ID Software I think, would license their popular game engine to other companies. People often commented on how similar the games were (outside of the "look").
