Believe you got it in one. I disabled distcc and relaunched the emerge - it appears to be running now.
The only downside is that I now get to upgrade my distcc farm this weekend. Oh well, whats one more maintenance task. Thanks! Kevin C. ps. Just noticed I'm on step 3 of 13 for my emerge -u portage.
