I did quite a bit of research into Mozilla SVG compatibility and found
that there aren't many Linux based solutions right now. There is the
Adobe SVG plugin available, but as another poster pointed out, hasn't
worked with Mozilla for quite a while. There are a number of java
based toolkits which offer varying (but mostly unsatisfactory) results
and are in various stages of (un)development. There is also and "SVG
in Mozilla" project which is moving along slowly, but doesn't seem to
be very far along and is generally not in into most Mozilla builds as
of yet.

IE supports it quite well I've heard (using the Adobe
plugin) but there are also problems with the "plugin patent" case,
where IE has to put up a OK box everytime a plugin is run.

SVG is a decent format for vector graphics and animation but not on
linux yet. I'd give it another year or two before anything is really
considered working and usable outside of the windows world.
