Problem I have a Dell C610 and I am having two problems and would love someones input and opinion.
I have emerged i8kutils and can use that to control the fans but when I try to start i8kmon in daemon mode (/usr/bin/i8kmon -d) it just sits there and hangs but when I do (/usr/bin/i8kmon -v -d) it does not hang but returns whats in /proc/i8k and loads what looks like what I entered in /etc/i8kmon does anyone have any ideas on this one. The other issue is in the Bios it calls for a ACPI compliant OS in order to use the Intel Speed Step technology. I compiled ACPI into the kernel (gaming-sources-2.4.20-r3) as Modules whenever I try to load the battery.o it segfaults and whenever I try to load thermal.o it just locks up all the other modules load fine from what I can tell. This being said should I go to the 2.6 mm-sources or hunt around for patches or whatnot for the 2.4.20 kernel. Any ideas are welcome. Also does anyone know of a good ACPI linux tutorial preferably one written for Gentoo Users if not I would love to write one kind of like a Journal commenting on what had to be done in order to get ACPI working for my laptop. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything recent or assuring that it would definately work. Derek Tracy -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
