I had read this but I read it in a different thread and did not no it was you when replying. > the facts: > using 2.6.0-beta9-gentoo > module-init-tools are installed > modprobe doesn't pick nvidia.o up, but the kernel modules autoloader does > it > > if i change to nvidia, Xserver crashes by changing to an other terminal > than vt7 or by shutting down itself. it freezes with 3 white stripes on my > monitor. i can access my mashine only via remote. events/0 is running on > 99% load. only reboot -f helps. First, check /var/log/XFree86.0.log and see if anything is obviously an error in there. Second, read /usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-<version>/README.gz and see if your problem is documented in there. Third, try the nvidia agp driver if your using the kernel driver or the reverse if you're not - the readme file you just read tells you how. Fourth, try lowering the speed of AGP - also documented in the readme file. > now i know that my workaround works equal like loading nvidia.o by > kernel-modules-autoloader. this was a try to find out a workaround, not a > thing at random. i don't know why reacting so angry musted be. My reaction wasn't one of anger, just of mild frustration. I can't see how changing the name and location of the nvidia module, especially if you know the kernel is loading it, could possibly help to fix your problem. Unless there's a clear logical train of thought behind what you're trying then it seems to be pretty random. Try what I mentioned above and if it doesn't work, then reply back with the symptoms and any error messages you can find. However, if you do so, make sure to do it in the right thread or repost the details or reference the earlier thread. Jason -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
