If you look at the original problem above, you'll notice the gtk-engines-mist that it wanted to install was at version 0.10 where the reference in gtk-themes is for version 0.8-r2. If all you did was install gnome-themes then it would seem like a bug in portage. How did you get to this circumstance exactly? Glad to hear all your other problems are solved.
