[gentoo-user] no floppy

Hi I'm trying to write a image to a disk and have just noticed that my floppy isnt working   /dev/floppy is a dir not a device   fd0 isnt in /dev/   and /dev/fd/0 gives     0+0 records in                                 0+0 records out and nothing happens   It wont mount either   its not hardware i have tried the drive in another machine   -Regards,  Svirax
