I'm still valiantly trying to install Gentoo on an IBM T30 laptop. This is my third attempt. Acc/to the instructions, after emerge sync, I'm supposed to update portage. However, "emerge -up portage" gives me about two screenfulls of dwnloads which are not installed, and a few updates. This is before the bootstrap process, and before "emerge system". Seems to me that I should either ignore the portage update now, or emerge only portage. I don't know whether the former os OK, and don't know how to do the latter. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
