udev will certainly be used by Gentoo *when* it is production-ready. Currently, this isn't the case. Few drivers are udev-ready and the documentation and support for udev and related tools is minimalistic. I haven't even found a single developer/user that runs a udev-powered system that doesn't use an old-style /dev or devfs for compatibility reasons. People with good information about the workings of udev (on user-level and system administrative level) are advised to add this info to the uDev guide bugreport (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27527) The current situation of udev is nicely discussed in http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel/13148 Wkr, Sven Vermeulen -- ^__^ And Larry saw that it was Good.
