Just export /usr/portage via NFS, and mount/unmount on distributed servers as 
needed.
If the arches match (my desktop is a p4, but compiles as a p3, and I am right 
now installing a p3 using images from the p4).
'emerge -k package' will use an image if available, or compile from source if 
not.
