I am attempting to startx (with X using XFS) and
receive the following near the end of
/var/log/XFree86.0.log:
Could not init font path element unix/:-1, removing
from list!
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
1. xfs is running (ps shows it)
2. /etc/conf.d/xfs contains:
XFS_PORT="-1"
SETUP_FONTDIRS="yes"
3. /etc/X11/fs/config contains:
client-limit = 5
no-listen = tcp
clone-self = on
catalogue = /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled,
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled,
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled,
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,
...
default-point-size = 120
default-resolutions = 75,75,100,100
use-syslog = on
cache-hi-mark = 2048
cache-low-mark = 1433
cache-balance = 70
4 /etc/X11/XF86Config contains (in part)
Section "Files"
RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb"
FontPath "unix/:-1"
EndSection
NOTE: when running Red Hat (I am mirgrating to
gentoo) using X and XFS there is a socket
/tmp/.font-unix/fs7100
when running Gentoo there is NOT any /tmp/.font-unix
directory or socket within the directory.
Is X looking for this? Why isn't it there? (I was
looking for something like /tmp/.font-unix/fs-1)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
