Yes but... if a big community supports the development of a Linux distribution, perhaps this distribution is more surely his permanence in the time. Has Gentoo a big community? I do not know it. Perphas someone into this email-list can give us an answer.
The user base could also be estimated by web site activity--how many IPs are accessing Gentoo user/admin/developor docs?
