Did you configure (usually automatic when the livecd boots) your
network/gateway and did you do an emerge sync or emerge rsync.  If you
did then it will be looking for a newer version than you have on the cd,
then fails to download the new one.   Look inside /usr/portage/disfiles
and see what version is there.
