2) nvidia/sdl issues...
I've has some minor troubles with my nvidia drivers on my GeForce FX 5700. Apparently, the portage tree needs updating, because nVidia came out with new drivers on the 22nd. I used the official ones instead of the emerge tree (because the emerge tree version broke when I used it??).
It's really not a good idea to use new official nvidia driver ...
I have also problem to make run nvidia FX5200 on VIA P4X400 chipset. I took HDD and FX5200 from i865P based PC, where it works, (glxgears ~1800 [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] & default size) put it to VIA PC, checked kernel modules for VIA chipset support (ok) and run startx ... screen froze in text mode, but random chars were displayed. The only thing I can do after is tree-finger salute. To have it work, I setup it with standard nv driver.
After releasing new official nvidia driver I decided to test it, but not even it doesn't work at all, but also breaks a lot of things (libraries).
After looking to ebuilds I learned, very heavy patching is needed to make it run properly.
Since it's not my first very bad experience with "official" nvidia drivers I have to say, there are some diletants working for nvidia, which like to break our linux boxes !
