Patrick, Not really sure of the exact cause of your problems. I'm getting the best gaming right now out of WineX and by using the wineoss sound daemon in the Wine config file. You do then need to configure Alsa to support OSS. Unless you've done patches I don't think and of the Wine versions out there are very compatible with Alsa-1.0.0-rcX. I think an ebuild for WineX was submitted that uses Alsa-1.0.0, as I'm using it under Gentoo, but maybe it won't be accepted since WineX is WineX and not Wine.
