A winomode needs a driver. Vmware doesn' t have such a hardware included, because all the hardware your gues OS will see has to be emulated. This means you can connect a real modem to the serial port and give acces to vmware or you can' t use it directly. Why would you want to, anyway? If you mean for Internet access then you should connect your linux box to your ISP and then configure it as a gateway so that your windows box will use the linux box as the gateway/router.
