It's not a matter of interest - it's how many people are working on Gentoo. There's a lot more of us users who submit requests, changes, ebuilds, etc. that have to be checked, processed, modified, whatever before they can be released on us. And all this in addition to work done to move Gentoo forward. It sounds like you might have the qualifications to be a developer or at least help in some way - have you contacted anyone at Gentoo about seeing what you can do?
