I bought an Epson 1660 last summer and it's worked fine (under SANE)
since day 1. Prices have fallen, though, so today I'd probably get
the 2400. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
Agreed, I used different scanners before and now I am happy with Epson 1660 + SANE too.
