I think you misunderstood, only if you do a make modules_install with a
kernelversion that has the exact same version , then it will overwrite the
existing, for example you have 2.4.22-r4 and you install 2.4.22-r6 the
version number is still 2.4.22 and after make_install the old
/lib/modules/2.4.22 will be overwritten.
