When I still run my Suse distri I had an nVidia card with the original binary drivers from nVidia installed. I experienced some problems when I ran Enemy Territory. In KDE the OpenGL screenblankers sometimes stopped working, sometimes the nVidia drivers were gone from my system and I had to reinstall them and similar strange things. This only happened when I played ET for a long time (several hours per day). I thought this is a bug in the nVidia drivers and when I upgraded to newer versions at least some of the problems went away but not all.
Now I have an Asus Radeon 9800XT with the 3.7.0 binary drivers and I experience the same thing, so I guess this is something with ET rather then the graphics driver. The driver wasn't gone from my system, but I can see similar behaviour. OpenGL screenblanker stops working in KDE and at least once I had to reboot because I suddenly had Mesa drivers running afterwards, instead of the accelerated drivers. After the reboot everything was fine again. I also posted this in comp.linux.development.system because I thought this is a potential security leak if systemdrivers can be removed from the disk, and at least one admin confirmed that he had similar problems when users on his machine also played ET (maybe with other games as well, but he didn' t know for sure, because he didn't attribute it to ET then). Anybody having similar problems? I can' t believe that I'm the only one. :) -- Gerhard Gruber Maintainer of SoftICE for Linux - http://sourceforge.net/projects/pice Fast application launcher - http://sourceforge.net/projects/launchmenu -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
