I am using hdparm with the "-S 12" option to spin down the harddrive after one minute of inactivity.
However, this only happens if I don't have metalog running. This does not make sense to me since I don't log to the harddrive because I mount /var/log using tmpfs.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Are u really sure tmpfs is mounted to /var/log ?
How much memory have u got ? If swapping is in progress it can't work.
Shutdown Xfree, disable swap and check it again. If it works, your PC probably needs more MEM.
